(SACRAMENTO) – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California released the following statement from President Bill A. Lloyd on the introduction of Senate Concurrent Resolution 103 which urges an economic boycott of Arizona until anti-immigrant legislation, SB1070 and HB 2162 are repealed.
“In supporting Senate Concurrent Resolution 103 we are sending a clear message that working families want serious solutions to our immigration problems—and that we will not tolerate policies that undermine public safety, waste millions of taxpayer funds, and imperil our most basic civil rights.
“Laws that authorize and encourage racial profiling and discrimination have no place on the books of any state in this nation. We call on the California Legislature to pass this Resolution and take a clear stand against the hateful and un-American SB 1070 and HB 2162.
“The working families of SEIU in California stand with the communities of Arizona. We will not back down until this law is overturned.”

SEIU California is a coalition of over 700,000 janitors, social workers, security officers, home care workers, school and university employees, healthcare workers, and city, county and state employees represented by SEIU local unions throughout California. We come together to build a better California by fighting to pass policies and elect candidates that benefit working families and advance the issues we care about: affordable healthcare, good wages, retirement security for all, a healthy environment, good schools and universities, and stronger communities. We believe that by working together we can build a California where working families can thrive again.
